In recent years, the sense of place and its various levels—reflecting a special correlation between individual and environment—have been recognized as fundamental components in enhancing the value and identity of urban contexts. Given the importance of this sense as a key indicator of designed space quality, this study examines the fundamental components of sense of place in contemporary landscape design, with a case study of Tabiat Bridge in Tehran. Using a mixed method and qualitative content analysis strategy through open and axial coding, the research identifies factors contributing to the formation of sense of place in such urban spaces. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted to verify the components obtained from theoretical foundations and initial codes, alongside a researcher-made questionnaire distributed among 383 users of Tabiat Bridge via simple random sampling. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for analysis. Questionnaire validity was confirmed by 20 experts using Lawshe's content method (0/81), and reliability was verified through Cronbach's alpha (0/726). Data were analyzed using SPSS, with Spearman correlation test measuring data dependence and fuzzy Delphi method determining the relative importance of components. Results show that interactive aspects and multifaceted dimensions of human presence (social and cultural interactions, informal activities), readability, sense of safety, identification with space (belonging and solidarity with the environment), and surface quality have a significant correlation with the formation of sense of place in Tabiat Bridge. These results highlight the importance of physical and perceptual dimensions over mere spatial diversity. Furthermore, purposeful attention to lateral spaces and references to historical architectural experiences play a vital role in enhancing sense of place when contemporary structures meet users' sustainable physical and psychological needs. By providing a comprehensive perspective, this research offers solutions for designing urban spaces with a stronger sense of place.
