Facades of residential buildings in megacities not only shape the urban landscape but also reflect the cultural and economic status of inhabitants, playing a significant role in the spatial and social perception of the city. Window openings are among the key elements of building facades that, in addition to being influenced by climatic and aesthetic factors, are shaped by economic and cultural aspects such as household income and culturally-informed design practices. Considering the role of window openings in enhancing living quality and mediating the relationship between interior and surrounding spaces, examining the factors affecting their dimensions from cultural and economic perspectives is essential. This study is categorized as applied research and adopts a descriptive–correlational approach with an analytical perspective. In the literature review phase, theoretical concepts and indicators related to facades and residential openings were examined. In the fieldwork phase, 48 samples from Districts 2 and 11 of Tehran were selected based on economic and cultural indicators, including income level and façade design practices, and the window-to-wall ratio (WWR) of each façade was measured using AutoCAD. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS, and the results were complemented with cultural and social interpretations.The findings indicate that window openings in District 2 are significantly larger than in District 11. Given the similar climatic conditions across both areas, the impact of cultural and economic factors is emphasized. In more affluent areas, greater economic capacity allows designers increased freedom in using larger window openings and adopting more luxurious facade design strategies and these findings are associated with the emerging phenomenon of conspicuous consumption and the display of financial capability in Iranian society, contrasting with historical and cultural precedents, while aligning with similar global trends.
