Housing and the housing unit is a fundamental element in the urban residential structure. The diversity of the spatial organization of the residential unit affects the collective relations of the residents. The present study objectively and topologically analyzes the structure of sample residential housings in Amol City through the use of space syntax on the one hand, and on the other hand, measures the residents’ mental perception by asking them about their satisfaction with the relations between the spaces of the residential unit. The relationship between the solitude and the collective interaction in the spatial organization of sample housings is among the determining factors affecting residents' satisfaction. Therefore, the present study mainly aimed to analyze the relationship between the spatial organization elements and how to improve the level of residents’ satisfaction with solitude and collective interaction in apartment housing samples. The other objective is to achieve design recommendations to improve the quality of spatial relationships between the apartment housing units. The research questions are: What is the role of research components in the satisfaction of the residents? Which sample’s spatial organization are the residents most satisfied with? What are the design recommendations to improve the level of residents’ satisfaction? To conduct the research, first, the sampling of apartment housing units in Amol City was done with the use of space syntax techniques, and then, the spaces were analyzed using the AGRAPH. After that, the residents’ satisfaction was measured with the use of questionnaires and correlation tests. This case study is limited to residential samples from four zones in Amol City which are distributed equally. The results indicate that there is a significant difference between the “merely qualitative or quantitative” view of residential unit space and a simultaneously “objective-subjective” analysis. The objective analysis of the spaces with the graphs and explanation of the internal relations through the extent of the space uses allows for more comprehensive results compared to asking people and subjective analysis through the instrument to measure the satisfaction with the quality and function of the spaces. As a result, the above analysis shows that the increased area of the building, the increased satisfaction with the solitude component, and the balance between the solitude and collective interaction have led to the increase in satisfaction with the collective interaction. Sample No.4 with the broken plan and an appropriate spatial separation between private and collective spaces is the most satisfactory unit from the viewpoint of the residents. According to the results, spatial organization can affect the behaviors and subjective structure of the residents in the residential unit.
