Ritual actions can be seen in both sacred and unholy realms of social life. In both cases, the symbolic quality of action is the privileged feature of ritual actions. The first point reveals that the symbolic nature of ritual action is the underlying element of this type of action. The symbolic nature of rituals allows individuals to develop their thoughts and ideas, and share them, which is itself the base for the creation of communicational action. Symbolic communications enable people to generate, explain, and record their thoughts and information. In addition to this general definition, it can be stated that rituals have transited from tradition to modernity, so the main difference between these two historical periods is more respective to the content, not the structure, and this a claim that this paper tends to explain it by reviewing modernist theories and studies on the housing field. The main question of this study indeed asks how much modernism influences changing ritual ideas in the house. The research method of this study relies on the qualitative method and logical reasoning. Furthermore, documentary review and library study shape the base for analysis, description, and interpretation of results in this study. The extant study has adopted documentary and library studies in the data collection step, and the deductive reasoning method has been used in the next steps. Ultimately, it is concluded based on the investigations and analyses that traditional ritual content has been replaced with other factors, such as TV, bedroom, fire, or fireplace (in Lloyd Wright's designs), and no structural change has occurred in this fixed and stable existence of ritual in the home.
