به طور معمول، بیشتر ساعات زندگی زنان در فضاهای درون خانه سپری میشود و کیفیات فضای سکونت نقش زیادی در سلامت جسمی و روانی آنان دارند، بنابراین لازم است کیفیات فضایی مطلوب خانههای آپارتمانی از دیدگاه زنان خانوار بررسی شوند. هدف از انجام این پژوهش، فهم کیفیات فضایی مناسب برای کاربست و طراحی مسکن آینده شهر بندرعباس بود که اهداف خُرد، شناسایی کیفیات فضای سکونت در خانههای آپارتمانی و رتبهبندی کیفیات فضایی از دیدگاه زنان خانوار بود. این پژوهش بر مبنای روش ترکیبی کیفی-کمّی انجام شده است که از هر دو روش یافتهاندوزی کتابخانهای و میدانی استفاده شده است. جامعۀ آماری پژوهش، زنان خانوار ساکن در خانههای آپارتمانی در شهر بندرعباس هستند. فرآیند پژوهش شامل تدوین مبانی نظری، روش دلفی، پرسش¬نامههای محقق¬ساخت و تحلیلهای آماری همچون آزمون خی دو، آزمون تی گروههای مستقل، آزمون تحلیل واریانس و آزمونهای تعقیبی و آزمون رتبهبندی فریدمن است. کیفیات فضای سکونت از طریق یافتههای مبانی نظری، دیدگاه خبرگان و مصاحبه با ساکنان شاملِ «هدایت و راهنمایی»، «گشایش فضایی»، «ترکیب فضایی»، «تناسب و مقیاس فضایی»، «فضامندی»، «سلسله مراتب فضایی»، «روابط فضایی»، «پویایی فضایی»، «دنجی فضا»، «هماهنگی و تعادل»، «تفکیک فضایی»، «انعطاف¬پذیری فضا»، «تنوع فضایی»، «تمایز فضایی»، «پیوستگی فضایی» و «خاطره¬انگیزی فضا» هستند. بر اساس رتبهبندی کیفیات فضایی از دیدگاه زنان خانوار، کیفیت «هماهنگی و تعادل» و پس از آن میانگین کیفیت «تناسب و مقیاس فضا» بالاترین میانگین اهمیت در بین کیفیات فضای سکونت و «تنوع فضایی» و پس از آن «پیوستگی فضایی» پایین ترین میانگین اهمیت را در از دیدگاه شرکت-کنندگان در پژوهش داشتهاند.
